Like an Iceberg…

While the release of Star Citizen 2.4 was huge news and gave us a glimpse of things to come, July came and went without a lot of happenings aside from a huge 4-part Around the Verse.  It was another one of those “quiet months” that seem to happen here in the early year.  Like an iceberg, 90% of Star Citizen’s development is still hidden below the waves.  There’s so many things being worked on that aren’t ready for them to announce to us yet.  Some things did happen though, there was somewhat of a leak showing some of what will most likely be on the horizon for all the way out to 2.7 towards the end of the year.  When I first signed up for Star Citizen, things like the procedural planet generation was a wish-list item, but more and more, it’s appearing like CIG is making it an integral part of the game.  They recently announced atmospheric flight models for the ships which brought a cheer to anyone who owns a bird shaped more like a fighter plane and less like a brick.  The hottest tech is still under tight wraps though, and that’s the instancing and networking system, though target is set for 2.7’s release and according to the powers that be, they are still on target.

Now, as a battle commander I have the headache of having to worry about in-atmospheric ambushes and dogfighting.  Hooray me!  Special props to Skoma for his amazing work on our “Org Tool” on the site for keeping track of this kind of stuff.  I know I’ll be needing it when we start going live.  Maybe I should have him add a filter for telling me members who own a fighter which can fight well atmospheric.  Demonseed out!
