Hard Times – Lord Corwin (part 3)
January 2, 2017

Finally… 2.6 is upon us, and the wait was worth it…

Alright, suit up marines, you’re all going to need to learn how to shoot things.  Star Marine is finally launched, and with it, the complete camera and animation system we’ll most likely be seeing in the final game.  It should come as no surprise to everyone, that Star Citizen is becoming less and less about living inside your spaceships, and more and more about exploring the universe as a human.  The ships are a huge part of it, but in the end, they’re just tools like everything else.  Everyone will need to know how to handle basic combat.  You never know what you’re going to run into in the ‘Verse that’s going to put you on the wrong end of a blaster.

Are you an explorer?  You’re going to be crawling through some derelict you found at some point, and there may still be pirates or worse, some creepy alien thing still lurking in the shadows.  Are you a merchant?  At some point, you’re going to get boarded.  Knowing how to throw that grenade could be the difference between you getting killed and losing your haul, or triumphantly towing back an empty pirate ship as a salvage bonus.  It’s an exciting moment for me, because it brings into perspective that aspect which I love most about Star Citizen… that’s it’s a game with ships, not a game about ships.  You are not your ship, as in Elite Dangerous or EVE Online.

I had known about them implementing Lumberjack’s systems a while back – probably 6 months ago when they mentioned how they were integrating it to their cloud-based server host, but it looks like enough is integrated now that they’re required to sport the “Lumberjack” logo.  It’s a move that’ll speed development and make a better overall game.  Anyways, I’m going to head over and see if I can’t fight to the end of another round of Pirate Swarm, Demonseed out.
