GOOOOOOOD MORNING ODDYSEE!

Demonseed here, with a big announcement to make.  As you may or may not know, Oddysee has it’s very own ArmA 3 server up and running!  If you’re new to Arma 3 or always thought about picking it up but haven’t made the commitment yet, here’s a great opportunity to get some value out of your game!  Oddysee’s server is currently running at:  arma3.oddysee.org

It is an open server, thus requires no password, so you may see some outsiders drop in.  Be sure to make them feel welcome!

The server is running a few mods that you will need to have downloaded (or subscribed to via Steam).  They’re large mods because they add in a lot of extra content into the game.  They include CBA (Community Base Addons), and the three CUP (Community Upgrade Package) mods.  The nice thing though is from the Arma 3 launcher, if you enter the Oddysee server into the server tab, it will tell you the mods needed with a quick-button click to automatically download and install them.

Another things about our Arma 3 server is it is running a lot of anti-cheat and cheat detection scripts.  Because it is an open server, it seems the vast majority of kids looking to hop in, are running some form of cheat script.  You’ll frequently see them log in and immediately log out.  Please be aware, you must be actively running ONLY the mods the server needs at their latest versions, have base scripts that don’t call cheaty functions (like spawn vehicles and items or teleport), and be running a legitimate retail copy of Arma 3 (it checks for this via Steam, sorry, no pirates allowed).  Occasionally, cheaters slip in despite this, in which case, many of us have server admin credentials to ban them out.  Just ask on Discord (or we’ll give you the admin password, have a blast!  Be fair with it’s use though.  Oddysee is trusting you.)

Finally, the server is running a persistent mission called Wasteland.  It is the latest version of this mission, straight off the github of the authors.  It plays on the map Altis, and while it includes features that are part of Arma 3’s DLC, it is NOT required for you to have the DLC to play it.  You will be prevented from using the equipment though.  But this also isn’t your stock Wasteland game either for all you Arma3 vets who have said “but I’ve played a lot of Wasteland”, remember all those mods?  I’ve been hard at work integrating all those new vehicles and weapons into the game!  While not finished yet, many new items are in the stores, and hopefully, will also be spawning in missions.

Which brings me to…

WASTELAND WEDNESDAYS!

Every Wednesday, I declare as Wasteland Wednesday for Oddysee!  This means that every Wednesday, despite all the other cool games I own and want to play, will be logging in and spending my night in Arma 3 on our Wasteland server.  Let’s make this an event and a tradition for all the Oddysee Arma 3 players out there!  Here’s the rules I’m going to lay out…

Most of the Oddysee players on the server are currently set up to play on the Blue team…  this is fine, but I am defecting and starting a Red team!  Anyone who wants to defect with me, feel free to shoot me a PM and I’ll unlock you next time you’re on. If not, then just shoot me.

On Wednesdays (as long as it’s still Wednesday in your timezone in the world), Wasteland Wednesdays rules are in effect.  The simple rules are:

  • No directly attacking the other team’s main base or it’s immediate vicinity.  It’s nice to have a “safe zone” you can stockpile some junk at without it being bombed to oblivion every hour because unlike the real military, we don’t have always on-duty guards or automated defenses.
  • During the week, everyone is welcome to play, have fun and build up their team.
  • During Wasteland Wednesdays, both teams will try to capture map-missions and objectives.  This is strictly for bragging rights, but if they happen to encounter opposition from the other team, it’s fair game!
  • Even if a team does succeed in capturing a vehicle, they still have to get it back to their base or to a shop to sell.  Otherwise, it’s still fair game.
  • Each team will have their own Discord voice channels to use.  Eavesdroppers will be verbally ragged on and subjected to the standard array of yo-mamma jokes – except Tom… Tom will come into the channel if he damned well pleases.  Say hi to him.
  • If this becomes a thing and we want to continue these rules for the entire week, then so be it! Have fun, this is somewhat of an informal competition, no scores are being kept.
  • Greens (independents) are fair game by both sides and these rules need not apply.

Other than that, no other “rules”, just have fun, butt some heads in friendly combat and remember to dump your hard earned cash in the ATM. 🙂
