The Music of Squadron 42

I grew up in music, I was the youngest of four boys, caught up in the era of rock’n’roll where it soaked into my ears and mind and body. Everyone in my family, amongst us kids, played an instrument and sang with natural ability. I still listen to a large spectrum of music and depending on my mood, different types. I sketched and painted to a musical backdrop, and created my own stories with the same music, always hoping that some day I could produce my own visual works with my music, my words and my art, but life gets in the way.

I watched the ATV segment “The Music of Squadron 42”, and was awe struck by the complexity of the soundtracks, no…not soundtracks, more like atmospheres. I always thought of music of conveying moods, and of words and pictures converying action, and  but somehow Chris Roberts has captured it all in an immersive work called Star Citizen.

The Blue Danube by Johann Strauss, Atmospheres by Gyorgi Ligetti and Also sprach Zarathusa by Richard Strauss captivated me with the release of 2001 A Space Oddysee, so much I bought the cassette. The music has been tied together in popular culture with the movie ever since.

Where did this scope come from, that the music in a game would be tied to a single players character in a such a defining way, and did Roberts just elicit the idea from the composer or did it come from CR himself? The thought and intellect behind it is inspiring.

So when Squadron 42 finally reaches us, I can in part, fulfil my dream to re-enact a story, can write my own dialogue, and be my own hero with Star Citizens help. The story is just beginning, and next newsletter will tell you where cainsrebel’s story goes next in print, but Star Citizen will tell you where he finishes.
