The Star Marine Training for Pathfinders
Star Marine was released with Star Citizen 2.6. So for all of us in Oddysee, what does it mean, and for all of us in Pathfinders, what does it mean ?
Obviously security is a service we’ll be providing in the ‘Verse, so a lot of the combat training is required. We need boarding parties, ground troops for incursions and the required guard duties and escort.
And what of Pathfinders? For those of you who are thinking, exploration has nothing to do with combat, why would I train for it? While thinking of a topic for this month’s report, I ran it by Demonseed Elite. He had one simple line :
“Explorers… learn to shoot. Never know what you’ll find exploring a derelict.”
So unknown alien crafts might very well have unknown aliens hanging out in that cargo bay, and just like the ” black box ” Tessa asks you to investigate in the PU, I have a feeling pirates would like nothing more than to seize an explorers’ ship at the point of a laser. Ain’t nobody taking my Carrack!
So I tried my hand at a somewhat laggy Star Marine, a little frustrating, but I can see why the excitement was there for this patch. I tried the PTU version and would last 4 minutes before SC crashed, but having just tried the Live version, I lasted long enough to see the results.I did not crash, (though I did die, several times) and was able to get a feel for the EVA as well as regular combat, and sure, its not perfect, but to see the progress in just over a week is mindblowing. Chris Roberts’ team do know what they’re doing.
With the release of 2.6, of course comes ships. Earthmark from our Oddysee group flew his Herald in AC to try it out in Pirate Swarm, and though not a nimble ship, it is fast. He managed to make it through the swarm and gather some points as well.
James E Negev asked me if I was going to get a “Cat”, everyones new favourite ship, but I said no, I am waiting for my Carrack. The pictures he provided here, could sway most people.
