[Hoi chummers, name’s Demonseed, and I’m looking for a few runners for some discreet work.  Don’t matter if you’re a bounty hunter, rigger, decker, street samurai, smuggler, brawler, technomancer, combat mage, street shaman, weapons specialist, con artist, gunslinger, ganger, investigator or tank, I’m looking to build a crew for long-term nuyen.   Jobs types range from glacial to nova-fast and ghostly to full on Armageddon.  Sponsors also as raging from gangers, corps, politicos, megas, and private parties… I’m an equal opportunity fixer; except polis, fuck the policlubs.  If you’re SINless, in the Seattle area, and looking for work, contact me at <LTG:NIP:TYO:AKIH:GOMINET:119200AC45220000:T00:INBOX:LH>.

Details in the datastream below…]

I’m looking to start up an Oddysee table-top game of Shadowrun, 5th edition.

So what the drek is Shadowrun?  Shadowrun is a cyberpunk style game world with magic thrown in.  The current iteration of it takes place in the year 2070.  It’s a world that has essentially the same history as our own, until 2012, when the whole Mayan long-count calendar, end of the world prediction actually happened; just not in the manner everyone was predicting.  It essentially signaled a return; i.e. a threshold, of magical energy returning to the world.

Magic mixed with genetics brought mutation and some people began giving birth or violently “transforming” into metatypes – elves, dwarves, orcs and trolls.  Likewise, some began to discover an ability to wield magic, and many primitive cultures and those who never truly lost touch with their ancient magical traditions and beliefs such as the American Indians, decided to use it during the initial years of chaos to reclaim their lands and establish sovereignty.

Additionally, the return of magic brought in a flood of other weirdness such as ghosts, vampires, ghouls and even dragons.  After the initial decade or two of chaos, technology marching on brought on trans-humanism in the form of easily accessible cybernetic augmentation.  Computer technology has advanced to the point of full virtual reality or augmented reality.  The world has grown into a mega-corporate owned dystopia, where everyone who’s worth anything is given a number that is linked to everything that they ever do.. the Social Index Number or SIN.

Shadowrunner is the term for someone who has fallen through the cracks and is SINless.  They’re typically mercenaries, freedom fighters or just gutter-trash who operate in the shadows of society doing the work nobody wants to admit to.  In the game, the players play as a team of these shadowrunners.

If you want more detail than that, I’ve included a link where you can download the main rulebook below, or just hit me up on Discord.

I’m planning on running the game weekly every Saturday (UTC) at this time. If group consensus is for more or less often or an alternate time or day, I’m open to adjustment.

This primarily favors the Americas and Australian time zones, but if there’s enough European interest, I might attempt a second game more favorable to their time.

The Virtual Table-Top software I’m considering using is Table-Top Simulator. It costs a little bit of money, but is one of the most versatile and exciting ones I’ve come across, allowing the loading of custom maps, content, and access to a huge arrangement of mods.  It will be my first time running an RPG online using a VTT.  Likewise, must have voice-chat capabilities.  Tabletop RPGs are typically spoken.  While you don’t have to have a microphone and generally can type responses, you’ll need to be able to hear me speak.  As a gamemaster, I have too many parts to play to get by with typing alone.

If you don’t have it already, access to the Shadowrun 5th edition Core Rulebook is here. The 5th edition of this game is admittedly new to me, but I’ve run Shadowrun through it’s 1st, 2nd and 3rd editions for more than ten years, so I’m intimately familiar with its flavor and content.  While there are some expansion books available, at this point, I would like everyone to stick to the Core Rules.  There’s more than enough gear and options in there (far more than any previous editions) to make just about anything.

I’m limiting the game to a maximum of 6 players (the typical RPGA game size).  Cykhat has already thrown in, so I have slots for five more.  I’m looking for five more who can somewhat commit to the timeslot.  One of the beauties of Shadowrun though is typically, it’s episodic, and not serial (though it usually contains some serial campaign plot).  What this means is, gaming sessions typically start and end complete.  “You get the job, you plan the job, you execute the job, you get paid.” is the typical flow.  If two people can’t show up for the job next week, it’s fine because they’re assumed to be off doing other things and aren’t part of the new job.  It’s not like I have to end the game with the adventurers in the middle of a dungeon, and then figure out what to do next week as we continue with two absent players.

Likewise, if anyone is interested in being an alternate for this game, and being “on-call” as an available player, please contact me also.

For character types, I would like a good spread of muscle, magic computer and tech.  One of the things that excites me most about Shadowrun 5.0 is them finally fixing “Deckers” i.e. the computer hacker style characters in the game.  New magic forms give rise to some cool new character concepts like the “Gunslinger Adept”, essentially a magic-powered gunslinger.  Interested players, please review some of the standard archtypes in the Core Rulebook and be prepared to send me your character archtype and character concept.

If you are interested in potentially playing, please do the following:

  1. Review over the rulebook and character concepts.
  2. Email me at demonseed@oddysee.org and include:
    • Who you are.
    • Your character idea – don’t need details, can be as simple as “magic sounds cool, I want to make some kinda spell-slinger” or “I want enough cybernetics to barely pass as human!”
    • If you’re good for the meeting time and schedule.  Please, this is important.  I’ll be potentially dedicating my time every Saturday night for months.  Last time I tried to run an online game, I had one person show up out of five to the first session.  I’m open to changing the time/day but it needs to be a consensus.
  3. Don’t go out and purchase Table Top Simulator unless you hear back from me (or unless you want to, it is pretty cool after all).

I look forward to hearing from anyone interested!
