3.0 IS FINALLY UPON US!  Sorta…

As of this report, the 3.0 build has hit the PTU and several Oddysee members, yours truly included, have been messing around with it.  Blessings are mixed, as the build is still very buggy, and a lot of refinements will be needed in the upcoming months to smooth it into a full featured game.  For me, I typically experience low framerates, and even full CPU locks for several seconds at a time, despite having a top-end processor and an nVidia Titan-X. That’s not to say it isn’t worth it though, this release makes it clear which direction they want to take the game universe and it truly is glorious.   As a result, with renewed Star Citizen fervor, I’m planning on trying some official SOD training and maneuvers in the weeks following after 3.0 hits the Live servers provided bugs get fixed and stability holds out.

Right before I began this report, Haydz dropped in my lap a secret project he’s been diligently working on: The Oddysee Battle Bible. This guide is an excellent primer on all aspects of ship systems, combat basics, and information you can use to be a better pilot in the ‘verse.  After giving it a once-over review, I actually found a couple interesting things I didn’t know about (like the section on relative velocities).  It’s still a work-in-progress and will most likely be so for a long time as game systems get tweaked and updated as we go forward.  Another excellent training resource I found are The Art of Space Combat series of videos which demonstrate some more advanced dog-fighting techniques and maneuvers.

I have no doubt this game will turn out to be something absolutely amazing in the next couple months, and look forward to the next year of development on it.  Demonseed out.
