//Welcome back//
Welcome back all, to another invigorating episode of at the Helm. I’d like to take this moment to thank all of you who are reading this, the guys who write and work for this. Unfortunately, this particular at the Helm will be addressing more of a Solemn point.
Now. Before I get started, I’d like to apologise for it being a week late, the other guys were excellent and had everything submitted on time, but sometimes life punches us in the face. Really hard. Anyway! Buckle up, and prepare for a read (though it might not be too long).
//Your home as much as it is ours//
The biggest concern I’d like to bring up for this at the Helm is as follows; Oddysee is as much your home, as much as it is ours. Now to those of you reading the newsletter, you’re most likely not even the ones who have to worry about what’s being discussed here.
Recently, especially over the last few weeks/ months we’ve had quite a few people drop off the radar or leave Oddysee. Some of these have been people who have felt that Oddysee just didn’t offer what they were after and that’s completely fair enough and I wish them the best going forward. However, there have been a few who have left stating (for those who took the effort to say good bye, as aggressively as it might have been) that Oddysee simply does not provide enough.
This particular notion that we simply don’t do enough is quite frankly alarming. Specially so; considering our Officers, Community managers and Event managers have gone out of their way to organise events, servers and even this Newsletter.
Personally, I know I can do better, I should be doing better, however the staff working within Oddysee are not paid. Unfortunately, we don’t have an income stream for this to be a viable opportunity, as such they run on pure motivation to not only provide a good experience for you all, as friends but also to further Oddysee.
As the aforementioned is the case it is heart breaking for me to hear of the cases where these events are organised yet only a handful of people show up to them. Many of the regulars to the events, for who I’d like to take this moment to thank from the bottom of my heart. However, I am not simply berating those who have not been able to show up due to other circumstances, we all have real life popping up.
//A request//
As someone who wishes to provide a quality experience for all of you, whether you be staff within Oddysee, a member or a guest. I request the following:
If you have any issues let me know. We’ll try and work through it, but be willing to be flexible as well as dedicate some of your time. One of Oddysee’s primary pillars is Kinship, with the main focus to not make you all feel like another number. Each and every one of you is what makes Oddysee, well… Oddysee.
As of late it’s been feeling a lot like people are simply, just here. As I said, I understand life happens but to me, each and every one of you is an important component to make Oddysee, friends, extended family. Likeminded people to get up to shenanigans with.
With all that said, I’d also like to request that if you have any suggestions or would like to volunteer to run stuff, have some friends/ family that would like to join Oddysee, let me know, either through a direct message to me or some of the other staff we have on deck.
//Coming up//
It was meant to be sorted by the start of this month, but as you can see I’ve personally fallen behind and so has the plan. What’s the plan you ask? The Channel Subscription of course! With it, the missed Lina Inverse! Developed by our very own bot programmer Ryu. Look forward to a full writeup for next months ‘At the Helm’. (It’ll be on time I promise!)
//Closing//
To those who have made it this far, I appreciate it as always. Be sure to check out the other stuff that’s going on within the Oddysee Newsletter, there’s some awesome things the others have written up. I apologise if this at the Helm felt more like a Whiny teenager however I believe it had to be said.
Oddysee is what you make of it, it can be anything or nothing to you, but if it’s nothing then let’s make it something. If that doesn’t work out, we all understand.
Kind regards
Alasmon Necrithious (Cykhat)
