How to shave hours off your trip ….or which wormhole should I try first?
From the Arkmap on the RSI website, the wormhole sizes can be selected and highlited with ease, and much of this information, in my opinion, can be a real dealmaker or breaker for Oddysee. I guess I am “theorycrafting” as Demonseed Elite would term it, but several facts change it from a theory to a reality (in-game reality {if such a thing exists}), and the thought of 3.0 looming before us stirs my imagination and deductions again.
Discussions on Reddit and the RSI forums have formed some consensus as to the size of ships able to travel through the wormholes, the smallest able to take ships up to the size of a freelancer Dur, the medium sizes up to the Aquila and perhaps the Carrack, and of course the large would fit the capital ships.
There has been some discussion about the usefulness in-game of certain ships. First and foremost has been the much-maligned 315p from Origin, the basic starter explorer ship many of us (myself included) had purchased. So the 315p should not be so easily dismissed, it would obviously be used for quick surveys of safer areas, mostly “toothless” as far as armament goes, as its speeed offers it best defense. A 315p pilot could cash in on several jobs, Intel would require scouts for military purposes, some quick flights to the other side of the portal for locating troop movements, noting weaknesses in enemy lines, or even locating entrypoints in enemy controlled space for incursions with larger combat ships. The Terrapin in a military application as a forward observer to help guide Oddysee strike craft to their targets, its heavy shielding could probably survive even friendly fire. Even these two maligned ships have their uses.
Where more manpower is needed the Freelancer Dur would offer the best of both worlds, manned turrets and a much larger sensor array. The Aquila and Carrack are the ships that would be used for the heavy lifting as far as exploration goes, full mapping of sectors through the wormholes found by those smaller ships, deep space and long hauls . All the ships will be used in tandem, teamwork can make the Oddysee PMC profitable, providing clients with general or specific information on destinations, resources, military intelligence and pirate activity. There are so many different possibilites in Star Citizen, all of which my other 298 (at time of this writing) Oddysee PMC brothers are waiting to put into action.
“All of a sudden, space isn’t friendly. All of a sudden, it’s a place where people can die. . . . Many more people are going to die. But we can’t explore space if the requirement is that there be no casualties; we can’t do anything if the requirement is that there be no casualties.”
