Still waiting for persistence…
May came and went, and like me, you all are still waiting on the big 2.4 update. I don’t have to repeat myself saying it’s a huge, huge upgrade. I think people are going to get some wrong impression though that it’s going to add some huge amount of material on the front end. Yes, it will, after all, we’ll have money, and insurance, and stuff we can buy, hangers to rearrange and decorate, clothing to wear, etc… but on the “spaceships flying around” side of things, I don’t expect to see much new. This is a huge update, but like an iceberg, we’ll only be able to see the 10% visible sticking out of the water. Working with databases professionally, the backend for a game like Star Citizen must be monumental.
That said, this is Strategic Ops, so lets talk something combat related! Buccaneer! A vicious looking little ship with a LOT of boom under the hood. This thing promises to have guns galor, and be fairly zippy to fly as well. Something tells me it may end up being a bit of a paper-bag in the armor department, but I suppose that’s just a “feature” to drive Drake sales… Starfarer will be flyable soon, and I’ve watched several videos of people boarding these and having gunfights in them. NOW we’re cooking! I’m wondering if the system that lets you place objects in hangers will eventually allow you to place things inside ships… like some convenient stuff for cover or barricades. It’ll be interesting to see what play effects this will bring, especially with the while boarding mechanic. Time and playtesting will tell. I hope to see more large ships come into game that can be boarded and fought in, though as I mentioned elsewhere, the Idris probably won’t be seen until after Squadron 42 is released. Anyways, any day now, 2.4 will be dropping after almost 20 PTU builds now. Fingers crossed, can’t wait! Demonseed out.
