The recent patch brings a new flight model and various tweaks to the main game.  Some people have complained about it being sluggish, but from my own playing, I haven’t noticed this.  Neptune, who hasn’t played the game in a while didn’t like how disjoined the camera was from the cockpit, but found fixing his view lessened.  Later he brought up the point of “do gimbals offer that much of an advantage?” and found he could hit targets easier with everything fixed forward.  I tend to agree with this, as I’ve been an advocate of “all same guns, all same mounts” to minimize the “rat’s tail” of targeting reticles you have to deal with.  Unfortunately, most of my ships have “automatic” gimbals on the nose weapon slot but I can certainly see his point.  I’d love to hear thoughts and opinions about this from the Org.

Another month, and still without Star Marine.  More of the FPS tech is making its way into the engine at least, so it isn’t long before the “game mode” of the FPS comes out.   I certainly know our Marine Commander Varrus Vakarian will be itching to get into it, especially now that he finally has a computer that can handle the game.  Everything is slowly getting wrapped into the Arena Commander 2.0 – Persistent Universe model now and the Crusader map looks really exciting to play in.  I suspect it’s where the games of salvage and mining will also be getting developed and I can’t wait to see what CIG develops out of it beyond fixing hacked comm satellites.
