“Chief, you need to see this!”, Kal’ar shouted across the bridge. Concentrated on the Hologram of the system we were hovering in.
“What´s up?”, i said, while i made my way to the scanner screens, where Kal’ar could barely hold on to himself. “I think we found him. Do you see this interference here? We couldn´t see it until now, because the black whole was right on top of it. In the last hour it began to show. Our computer can not confirm it yet, but my gut is telling me we are at the right place.” I was immediately excited. If i learned one thing in the last months i traveled with Kar’al, it was to trust his instincts. Those Xi’An were worth their pay. With a quick glance at the screens i discovered the interference´s position right outside of the black hole´s event horizon.
“Ok, let´s bring us into the orbit of this motherfucker.” i said and slid onto the captains seat. Finally we would leave the this forsaken planet.
This whole system was disappointing when we arrived, but our contact had made it pretty clear, that he made damn sure this information was right. With the fee he received he better did. It took us 1 month to travel here and two months we spent scanning every rock. But we found nothing… Until now.
The humming of the Quiescence´s starting thrusters brought me back to the present. Today we were gonna finally get to the end of our journey.
As we closed the distance to the black hole, i could feel the tension building up in me.
The closer we got, the uneasier the ship flew. Fortunately those Carracks were build for enduring almost everything you would encounter in space. At the time we reached our orbit, the Quiescence reared and bounced like a young stubborn Stallion.
We almost had reached the position we located the interference at, when suddenly something strange came into view. A long bent tube arced over my field of vision. But the unsettling thing about it was the furry texture it seemed to have. Suddenly it struck out and whipped towards the Quiescence. I tried to evade but fast maneuvers this near to the event horizon are practically impossible. I could only watch it coming closer and closer and preparing for the impact. What was this purring sound, which seemed to originate from outside the ship?
I woke up. My cat Argo was lying on my chest purring his little heart out. His tail was flicking back and forth over my face, while he kept treading on me with his little feet. I had these dreams for more than 5 years now. Searching the info market every week did not yield any result yet, but i kept searching. Somewhere out there, something big waited for me.
I carefully grabbed Argo and placed him on the floor. It was time to get up anyway. My shift on Oddysee´s flagship was almost up. We were on a mission to eradicate every pirate in the Psi Sector. The UEE offered extraordinary payment for this.
My job included to avoid every other hostile sector to arrive with full torpedo bays and to give them no time for preparation. We were one jump away from their system and did not encounter any pirate patrol this far. This would be easy.

They did not expect us.
They did not know what hit them.
We won that day as always.
